Behind Olu.T

Design, process and creative practice

Olu.T started with Olutosin, my full name. Somewhere between Olu and Tosin, it became a name of its own.

I’m Tosin, the designer and founder of Olu.T Designs. My background is in industrial design and interiors, and I’ve always been interested in how objects work within the spaces and routines around them.

Olu.T grew from that way of thinking, with a focus on design-led ceramics and homeware that bring together form, function and a bit of the unexpected. I’m particularly interested in multi-functional pieces and everyday objects that can feel both useful and distinctive.

My Nigerian heritage and English upbringing also shape the work. The Afro-Japandi side of Olu.T comes through in the balance of warmth and restraint, organic forms, subtle pattern and earthy, monochrome finishes.

Creative Practice

I’m interested in how different parts of design can come together, especially when they don't seem like an obvious match at first. Industrial design and craft. Structure and irregularity. Function and sculpture. These contrasts often find their way into my work and process

The making is part of that process. I work across mould-making, casting, handbuilding, staining and glazing, using each stage to test and develop the next. Sometimes the things I try along the way end up changing the piece entirely. That mix of planning and experimentation is a big part of
how I work.
